Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
